Morgan State University Undergraduate Student, Engineering Physics

What are you are studying/what you are interested in studying and/or researching while at Purdue? If you have done internships or other applicable experiences, feel free to include them here.

Currently I am studying engineering physics at Morgan State University. This past semester I got the chance to participate in the Extreme Science Internship (ESI) at my school. ESI is a research internship with the University Research Alliance (MSEE URA), a basic research program focused on understanding and mitigating the effects of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons of mass destruction. Through the internship, I developed new interest in learning how to code and the different forms of coding.

What made you want to join the Leading Women Toward Space Careers program?

As I read about the program, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me. The program would givemeabetterunderstandingofthedifferentspacecareersIcouldpursue. Alotofpeopleinmy physics department are always mentioning space careers and the many opportunities people get out of them. Before looking into the program, I assumed the only “space careers” are those that put people in space. Iforgotaboutallthepeoplebehindthescenes.Withoutthepeopledoingthedesign, coding, calculations, testing and the list goes on; there be no space exploration programs or rockets. With this newfound knowledge, I have found several careers that I may want to pursue. However, I will need proper guidance to help me decide which career is the one for me. This program will give me practice in demonstrating leadership skills and allow me to observe how others use their leadership skills in their careers.

What area would you like to work in after graduation? (What career path, interests, opportunities, etc., would you like to accomplish? What field are you interested in?)

I am currently undecided on a career. I have an interest in coding and circuits/circuitry. I plan on starting a dual major in Electrical Engineering in Spring 2025. Upon graduation in 2026, I will continue my academic studies, with a master’s degree in either mechanical engineering or applied physics.
